Maserati to make Brabus blush

Maserati announced the MC Sport Line customization programme for its road cars, influenced by the company’s racing heritage and its latest accomplishment in the FIA GT championship in Argentina.

A series of new MC Sport Line options is for the customers who want to showcase racing oriented styling on their Maseratis with the pack’s extensive use of carbon fiber.

The model chosen to present GranTurismo S, but the personalization programme will be extended to include the entire Maserati line-up over the course of 2009. Owners can customize the exterior and interior as well as the technical aspects of the car by tuning the aerodynamic properties with the addition of front and rear carbon-fiber spoiler and side skirts with the central panel finished in matt black. Other additions include carbon-fiber mirror housings, door handles, sills and panels, dashboard and central tunnel. Even the steering wheel and paddle shifters are made from carbon fiber.

The car’s stance is emphasized by black 20 inch wheels, while the suspension gets stiffer springs, shock absorbers and anti-roll bars, lowering the car by 10mm.

Volkswagen presented a prototype at Detroit Auto Show. It would be an economic alternative in comparison to the Audi TT Roadster and Porsche Boxster. It is the concept of BlueSports, two-seaters with a roof, offers authentic settings: rear engine and rear drive, which is no longer a traditional roadster, a 2.0 TDI with 180 hp and a variety of systems to reduce the consumption and emissions.

Smaller than its rivals hypothetical, the VW-blue sport measured 3.99 meters long, 1.26 meters high and 1.75 meters. The new body is very aggressive and attractive. Short overhangs, bulging wheel arches, big wheels, 19 inch … It is a compact car, but very muscular. In fact, the platform is only 5 cm shorter than that of the TT, with its 2.43-meter wheelbase.

The power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed DSG gearbox, and if it is produced in series, Volkswagen said it would also have available a mechanical TSI petrol. With the TDI, the sample obtained U.S. consumption and outstanding performance, thanks to its weight. Volkswagen said the Blue sports weight will be less than 1200 pounds, which is due to the use of aluminum parts like the hood and cap. [Read more →]
