Fastest Corvette ZR1 ever on the way to take off

Corvette ZR1

Finally a new fast Corvette is on the way. Chevrolet announced the 2009 Corvette ZR1 to be released in the third quarter of 2008, calling it ‘ an American super car that not only establishes new bench makers for production bases power and performance, but challenges global competitors’.

Ed Peper, Chevrolet GM, said that the ZR1 gives new definition for what an American super car can deliver with performance that betters exotics costing much more and can still be driven everyday.

From breaking and acceleration cornering grip and top speed, it all boils down to the power to weight ratio. In fact the ZR1 is expected to be the first Corvette with a top speed of more than 322km/h. All that urge comes from a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 which belts out a massive 620bhp and 823Nm of torque. ZR1 engines are hand built at GM performance centre. It drives via a twin disc clutch similar to high performance, shift drive motorcycle.

The ZR1 is built on mixed aluminum and steel platform similar to the Z06 and has independent front and rear suspension with aluminum upper and lower control arms. The brakes are made of a carbon fiber reinforced ceramic silicon carbide material that does not corrode and should last the all life of car.

The ZR1 interior has a special instrument cluster with a boost gauge, a ZR1 logo on the counter and a speedometer that reads to 370km/h. The only options will be offered are the chrome wheels and a luxury trim package that includes power adjustable and leather trimmed sport seats.
